LAHORE – In a major move to protect families during Eidul Adha, the Punjab Home Department has officially banned all temporary mechanical rides across the province during the holiday period. This decision comes amid rising concerns about public safety, especially involving children.
According to the notification, only permanently installed mechanical rides located in registered amusement parks will be allowed to operate. However, these rides must have valid fitness certificates and pass all required safety checks. Owners are required to get approval from their respective Deputy Commissioners before operating.
The decision follows repeated incidents where temporary rides failed due to poor maintenance or overloading. Officials believe such rides often do not meet safety standards, putting lives at serious risk during the festive rush. “We cannot compromise on human lives for the sake of entertainment,” said a Home Department spokesperson.
Furthermore, the government emphasized that the ban is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring a safe environment for families during Eid. Large crowds, especially children, flock to these rides, and any mishap could have tragic consequences. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the ban.
All district administrations have been instructed to monitor public spaces and take immediate action if temporary mechanical rides are found in operation. Permanent rides that are certified as safe will not be affected and can continue as usual under supervision.
This step, though restrictive for some businesses, has been widely welcomed by parents and safety advocates. It reflects the government’s commitment to putting public welfare first, especially during high-traffic holiday seasons.
