PM Shehbaz Sharif congratulates Gen Asim Munir on promotion to field marshal rank

ISLAMABAD – May 20, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir on his promotion to the historic rank of Field Marshal. The promotion was granted in recognition of his exceptional leadership during *Operation Bunyān Mursūṣ* and his vital role in defeating hostile threats against the country.

The prime minister praised General Munir’s strategic command, saying he crushed the enemy’s malicious intentions through remarkable leadership and professionalism. “Allah has blessed General Asim Munir with unmatched abilities that have greatly benefited our nation,” Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement.

Highlighting the importance of *Operation Bunyān Mursūṣ*, the premier noted that General Munir’s courage, wisdom, and resilience were crucial to the success of the mission. He added that every soldier, from the chief to the rank and file, played a brave and honorable role in defending Pakistan.

According to the official notification, the federal cabinet approved General Munir’s promotion to Field Marshal due to the operation’s strategic excellence and the complete defeat of hostile elements. The title marks a rare honor in Pakistan’s military history and signifies national appreciation of his contributions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed immense pride in Pakistan’s armed forces under General Munir’s leadership. “Like every citizen, I am proud of our courageous troops and their outstanding commander, General Asim Munir,” he stated.

The government emphasized that General Munir’s elevation symbolizes both recognition of his past service and confidence in his future role in safeguarding national security during complex regional and global challenges.
