“This honour is a trust of the nation, and millions like Asim are ready to sacrifice”: Field Marshal Asim Munir

Newly promoted Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has said he is grateful to Allah Almighty and considers his elevation not a personal achievement, but an honour for the people of Pakistan, the armed forces, and the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.

In an official statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir stated, “This honour is the nation’s trust. To uphold it, even millions like Asim Munir are ready to sacrifice.” He expressed profound respect and appreciation for Pakistan’s fallen heroes, veterans, and serving officers.

The federal cabinet, under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, approved the historic promotion during a high-level meeting. This makes General Munir one of the very few military officers in Pakistan’s history to be elevated to the rank of Field Marshal.

According to the cabinet’s statement, Operation Bunyān Marsūs, a successful strategic campaign led by General Munir, played a major role in the decision. The operation reportedly dealt a decisive blow to hostile elements, solidifying national security and regional stability.

Field Marshal Munir also extended his thanks to the President, Prime Minister, and the cabinet for their confidence. He said that while the honour is conferred on an individual, it symbolizes the collective will and sacrifice of Pakistan’s military and citizens working together for peace and sovereignty.
