DHAKA – Starlink, the satellite internet service by SpaceX, officially launched in Bangladesh on May 20, bringing high-speed connectivity to areas with limited broadband access. The service is expected to improve internet quality for both residential users and businesses.
The announcement came through Starlink’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser, confirmed that Starlink will begin with two internet packages: “Residence” for Tk6,000 per month and “Residence Lite” for Tk4,200. A one-time installation fee of Tk47,000 is also required.
Both packages offer unlimited data with speeds reaching up to 300 Mbps. These options are designed for users who need reliable and fast internet, especially in rural or underserved regions where fiber or broadband is not available.
“This service provides a premium and sustainable internet solution,” Taiyeb stated. “It will support freelancers, NGOs, and entrepreneurs who rely on uninterrupted, high-speed access for their work.” He added that Starlink’s launch would help businesses grow in areas where traditional services fall short.
The interim government approved Starlink’s entry under the category of a non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellite provider. Officials say the move aims to strengthen internet resilience, especially during times of political tension when mobile and broadband services may be disrupted.
With this launch, Bangladesh takes a significant step toward digital inclusion. Starlink’s arrival is expected to benefit users across the country, especially those seeking stable, high-performance internet in all conditions.
