The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has made significant progress in modernizing the mining sector. Since October 2021, PITB, in collaboration with the Punjab Mines & Minerals Department, has geo-tagged over 3,868 mineral reserves using the Chief Inspectorate of Mines App. This initiative aims to improve safety and monitoring in the province’s mining operations.
The digital system allows for inspections of mining sites across six regions. Since August 2023, 10 inspectors have completed 2,416 site inspections. The app not only helps in inspections but also tracks emergency rescue equipment. This ensures better safety measures and compliance with mining regulations.
According to PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf, the app improves transparency and real-time oversight of mining operations. It also helps streamline the entire process, ensuring more effective monitoring. This advancement is expected to enhance the overall safety of the mining sector.
In addition to mining advancements, the Punjab government continues to focus on preserving its cultural heritage. Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, a member of the Planning and Development Board, spoke about the ongoing preservation efforts during International Museums Day at Poonch House. He highlighted the work being done on two new galleries at GCT Lytton Road, dedicated to Sir Shadi Lal and Ilm Deen Shaheed.
Dr. Bhutta also noted the significant international interest in Punjab’s heritage, with over 1,200 Sikh visitors from Europe and Canada touring the Poonch House and Bhagat Singh Gallery. The event was attended by officials from various departments, all emphasizing the importance of cultural conservation and the government’s commitment to these efforts.
