Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal’s iconic footballer, has reportedly been presented with a lucrative offer from a Brazilian club set to compete in next month’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
According to reports emerging on Sunday, the 39-year-old forward has been approached by a Brazilian side following a season without trophies at his current club, Saudi Arabian outfit Al Nassr. The offer is said to match his current salary at Al Nassr, where his contract runs until June 30, 2025.
Ronaldo’s future at Al Nassr now seems uncertain after the club failed to secure any major titles this season and, notably, missed out on qualification for the AFC Champions League Elite stage.
Although the name of the Brazilian club making the offer has not been disclosed, speculation points to one of the four Brazilian teams participating in the Club World Cup: Palmeiras, Flamengo, Fluminense, or Botafogo.
Renato Paiva, Botafogo’s head coach, responded to the rumours with a humorous response, but he did not completely rule out a trade. “Christmas is only in December… But if he came, you can’t say no to a star like that,” Paiva said with a smile when asked about Ronaldo’s potential transfer.
Paiva continued, emphasising Ronaldo’s enduring quality, “I don’t know anything. I’m just answering the question. But, as I said, coaches always want the best. Ronaldo is still a prolific goal scorer at his advanced age. He would flourish on a team that generates opportunity after opportunity.
He also suggested that the club’s American owner, John Textor, would likely be the one to confirm any discussions about the potential move. “This question needs to be asked in another language,” Paiva hinted, implying that talks might be taking place at higher levels within the club’s management.
Ronaldo’s future in Saudi Arabia and his next steps in his illustrious career remain uncertain, but with the Brazilian offer on the table, the legendary forward could be poised for a new chapter in his football journey.
