The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Monday officially nominated Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati as the next Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC). He has been serving as the acting chief justice since February 14, 2025. The nomination now awaits formal approval from the president of Pakistan.
A press release from the Supreme Court’s public relations office confirmed that the JCP held a meeting to consider the appointment. After discussion, the commission unanimously agreed to recommend Justice Swati for the top position at the BHC. A circular has been sent to the prime minister’s office for further action.
Justice Swati is a seasoned legal expert with over 30 years of experience. Born in Quetta on June 6, 1963, he completed his early education at Tameer-i-Nau Public School and earned a degree in English from the University of Balochistan. He later obtained his law degree from University Law College Quetta in 1988.
He began his law practice in 1991 as an advocate of the Balochistan High Court and joined the Supreme Court as an advocate in 2007. His career includes serving as a judge of the anti-terrorism court in Turbat between 2002 and 2003. In 2013, he was elevated as an additional judge of the BHC and confirmed as a permanent judge in 2015.
Justice Swati is known for his integrity and deep understanding of legal issues. Legal experts and senior lawyers have welcomed his nomination, expressing hope that his leadership will strengthen the BHC’s role in ensuring justice across Balochistan.
