PSL 10: Karachi Kings secure playoff spot after beating Zalmi in high-scoring thriller

Published on: May 18, 2025 4:50 PM

Karachi Kings booked their place in the PSL 10 playoffs with a commanding 23-run win over Peshawar Zalmi in the 27th match of the tournament at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The Kings delivered a powerful batting performance, scoring 237/4 in 20 overs, led by explosive fifties from skipper David Warner and James Vince.

The pair stitched together a massive 162-run stand for the second wicket, giving Karachi firm control. Later, all-rounders Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Nabi added 70 runs in just 23 balls to finish the innings strongly. Their late hitting proved crucial in setting a challenging total for Zalmi.

Despite a valiant 94-run knock from captain Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi fell short in their chase, finishing at 214/5. The loss leaves Zalmi’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread, as they now face a must-win situation against Lahore Qalandars in their final league match.

With this win, Karachi Kings climbed to second place in the points table with 12 points from nine matches. Their success also helped Islamabad United, who confirmed their playoff berth despite four consecutive losses. United currently sit third with 10 points and a weakened Net Run Rate.

Sunday’s clash between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars is now a virtual knockout. The winner will grab the final playoff spot, while the loser will join Multan Sultans on the sidelines. Sultans, with only two points from nine games, have already been eliminated.

The final league game between Karachi Kings and Islamabad United still holds importance. Both teams will be aiming for a top-two finish, which offers a second chance in the playoffs. Here’s how the PSL 10 points table stands after Saturday’s match:
