Afghan minister’s secret India visit sparks tension during Pak-India conflict

A secret visit by Afghanistan’s Deputy Interior Minister Ibrahim Sadr to India has come to light during intense Pak-India tensions. According to BBC Pashto, the visit happened shortly after the Pahalgam incident, which India blamed on Pakistan without evidence. The report says Sadr quietly met Indian officials while military strikes were ongoing between the two nations.

Ibrahim Sadr is known to be close to Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah. His visit raised eyebrows in Pakistan, especially as it happened at a time when both countries were exchanging fire. However, Afghan and Indian officials have not publicly confirmed or denied the visit, adding to the mystery.

At the same time, Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar held a phone call with Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Jaishankar said the conversation was “good,” but gave no further details. The contact is notable as India rarely speaks officially with the Taliban-led government.

This visit and phone call suggest India might be seeking to build quiet ties with the Taliban. These developments come as Pakistan deals with growing diplomatic challenges and security concerns in the region. The timing has made regional experts question Afghanistan’s role in the ongoing crisis.

Overall, the secret visit has added a new layer to South Asia’s tense situation. While details remain unclear, the move signals shifting alliances and fresh diplomatic strategies amid a dangerous regional conflict.
