Shah Mahmood Qureshi rushed to hospital after chest pain in jail

Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former foreign minister, was taken to the hospital early Saturday morning. He complained of chest pain after Fajr prayers while in Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore. Prison doctors examined him but his condition didn’t improve. As a result, authorities decided to shift him to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). He was moved quickly with the help of Rescue 1122.

Doctors at PIC provided immediate medical care. They carried out several tests to check his heart condition. However, no update has been shared yet about his current health status. His lawyer, Rana Mudassar, confirmed the situation. He said Qureshi’s pain became serious and needed urgent attention.

Qureshi has been in jail since August 2023. He is facing multiple charges related to the violent events on May 9, 2023. In July 2024, an anti-terrorism court indicted him. The case involves an alleged attack and arson at Shadman police station. Despite the charges, he has denied all accusations.

Earlier, Qureshi was kept in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. But later, authorities moved him to Kot Lakhpat Jail. The reason was his frequent court hearings in Lahore. The transfer helped manage travel and security better.

This sudden health issue has raised concerns among his supporters. Many PTI leaders and workers have asked for regular health updates. They also urged the government to ensure he receives proper medical treatment. For now, the public awaits more information about his condition.
