SIC files petitions in Supreme court’s reserved seats review case

The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has filed three miscellaneous petitions in the Supreme Court concerning the review of the reserved seats case. These petitions include objections regarding the bench composition, the live broadcasting of proceedings, and the timing of the review in relation to the 26th Constitutional Amendment case.

One of the petitions challenges the formation of the new bench, arguing that the review should be heard by the same bench that issued the original verdict. The petition emphasizes that the formation of a new bench contradicts established principles, as it should be led by the same judges who made the initial decision.

Additionally, the SIC has questioned the removal of two judges from the bench and the composition of the new 11-member panel. The petition raises concerns about how a review can be conducted by a bench of 11 judges when the original ruling involved a 13-member bench.

The SIC also insists that the review hearing should be postponed until the constitutional status of the 26th Amendment is resolved. The case against the amendment is still pending, and the petition argues that this issue must be settled before proceeding with the reserved seats case review.

Furthermore, the SIC has requested that the proceedings of the case be broadcast live. The council believes that public transparency and access are crucial for such an important constitutional matter.

The court is yet to decide on the petitioner’s requests, and it remains to be seen how the bench will respond to these objections and whether the review process will proceed as planned.
