Former Chief Minister of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, has urged the leaders of India and Pakistan to stop the ongoing military attacks and talk directly to resolve tensions. She called on both Prime Ministers to pick up the phone, communicate, and work toward a peaceful solution to the current crisis. In a strong statement, Mufti said military operations have never solved core issues between the two countries. She stressed that such actions fail to bring lasting peace and only increase suffering on both sides. “Military action is not the answer. It never was and never will be,” she added. She also questioned the effectiveness of past military actions, asking what India gained from the Balakot airstrikes after the Pulwama incident. According to Mufti, both countries should avoid further military escalation and instead choose political dialogue and diplomacy to ease regional tensions. Tensions have recently escalated after Pakistan shot down five Indian warplanes, including three Rafale jets. In response, India has resorted to drone strikes, targeting several areas along the Line of Control (LoC), including civilian zones. Pakistani forces claim they have destroyed 77 Israeli-made Harop drones over the past two days. Meanwhile, Indian strikes have drawn criticism for targeting civilian populations instead of military assets. These actions have been widely condemned, with many urging restraint and responsibility from both sides. The situation remains tense, but calls for peace like Mufti’s are gaining attention. As the region faces the threat of further conflict, voices calling for calm and dialogue are more important than ever. Mehbooba Mufti’s appeal adds to growing pressure on both governments to de-escalate and return to the negotiation table before the crisis spirals further.
