General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), met with the Pakistan Army team that secured the prestigious gold medal in the “Exercise Cambrian Patrol,” held in the United Kingdom from 4 to 13 October 2024. The Cambrian Patrol is renowned as one of the most challenging military exercises globally. This year, 143 teams participated, and the Pakistan Army contingent stood out for its exceptional skill and resilience. This marks the sixth time that the Pakistan Army has earned the coveted gold medal in this event. According to a news release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exercise took place in the unforgiving mountainous terrain of mid-Wales and tested participants on physical endurance, tactical acumen, and mental fortitude. The event emphasises teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, courage, and determination under the most demanding operational scenarios, setting a high benchmark for military excellence. The COAS commended the team for their outstanding performance and for upholding Pakistan’s honour on the international stage. The victory further solidifies the Pakistan Army’s reputation for excellence in global military competitions. Pakistan is observing the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Sawa Muhammad Hussain, the first recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, the country’s highest military award. Hussain’s courage and sacrifice during the 1971 war remain an indelible part of Pakistan’s military history. According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan’s top military leaders, including the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff and the heads of the three armed services, paid tribute to Hussain’s unparalleled bravery. He was instrumental in the destruction of 16 enemy tanks during the Zafarwal-Shakargarh sector battle in the 1971 war. While serving on the front lines, Hussain was martyred after being struck by a machine gun bullet. His death is remembered as a symbol of unwavering loyalty and sacrifice for the nation’s defence. The ISPR also praised Hussain’s extraordinary devotion, stating that his legacy would continue to inspire both Pakistan’s military and its people. “His courage and dedication will always be remembered in golden words in Pakistan’s history,” the statement read. The nation’s military leaders have called Hussain’s sacrifice a beacon for the future, with his commitment to defending Pakistan serving as a powerful reminder of the nation’s unyielding resolve.
