LAHORE: It was a superb show of golfing skills, prowess and ability by talented amateurs in the 18 holes golfing round at the par 72 Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course in the 41st Millat Tractors Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament here on Friday. The fight for top honours was fierce indeed, and at least twenty aspirants played remarkably well and the scores were exceptionally marvellous. In the full spotlight was Muhaymin Maneka of Gymkhana Club, a seven handicapper who sparkled in a way that can be graded as phenomenal. While his tee shots were powerfully accurate, the approach shots to the green were just splendid and the ball landed wherever he wanted it placed. The whole effort fetched him a dream like score of net 67 and going into the second round he surfaced as the leader of value and worth. Though Muhaymin is placed on top of leaderboard, quite a few challengers are fittingly positioned with stirring scores against their names. One stroke behind is Shahazad Azam of Royal Palm Club who compiled an applaudable round of net 68 and played smartly and appeared as a champion in control of his nerves and technical command over his shot making. A few others with notably decent scores were Hamza Kardar, Shahnawaz Durrani and the experienced and adept one Amer Mehmood (all from Gymkhana Club), Bilawal Khan (Nowshera) and Shahid Abbas (Royal Palm) and Farooq Alvi of Skyview Club. These six contenders bunched together at a net score of 69 all have caliber and seek to edge past the leader over the remaining two rounds. A wonderful show from these talented ones. Besides these eight top contenders for the Governor’s Cup title, the other forceful ones who made their presence felt were Subhan Ahmed at net 70, followed by four contenders at net 71. They were Dawar Lashari, Asim Zafar, Hassan Rehman and Fahad Yousaf. And at net 72 were eight admirable players. They were Saqib Rehman, Jashwa Ahmed, Ameer Khawar, Nauman Ilyas, Danish Javed, Ahmed Jabran, Fareed Maneka and Irfan Bhatti.
