Armed dacoit strikes private bank; cash looted

An armed robbery took place at the G-14 branch of a private bank in Islamabad, within the limits of Sumbal Police Station, on the previous day. A robber entered the bank, injured a security guard, and escaped with a significant amount of cash.

A police spokesperson told APP that the incident happened around 3:50 p.m. when a single individual, dressed in plain clothes and carrying a pistol, entered the bank and overpowered the security guard, identified as Fazal Hassan.

He said the robber seized the guard’s 30-bore pistol, bearing serial number 8013, along with 10 bullets. during the scuffling, the guard was shot and sustained serious injuries.

An armed robber held the entire bank staff and incoming customers hostage during a daring robbery. A police spokesperson told APP that the assailant seized control of the premises, restricting any movement before snatching approximately Rs. 1,865,580 in cash and fleeing the scene.

Senior officers of Islamabad Police, accompanied by heavy troops and other high-ranking officials, arrived at the location shortly after.

Bank officials filed a formal report with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sumbal Police Station, urging swift legal action.

Following the initial investigation report (FIR), a case has been registered under Section 394 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which addresses armed robbery with injury. Police have launched a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect. Meanwhile, the injured guard is receiving medical treatment, and his condition is being closely monitored.

Senior police officers assured the bank and public that all efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect and prevent such incidents. They emphasized that Capital Police is committed to protecting citizens’ lives, property, and dignity, stressing that no elements will be allowed to disrupt the city’s peace and security.
