SUKKUR: Indus River at Sukkur Barrage was running in medium flood with over 300,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) discharge. Irrigation official told in next 24 hours discharge on upstream Sukkur Barrage would be 393,863 cusecs and 333,108 cusecs downstream with an increase of more than 57,000 cusecs in last 12 hours. All concerned departments have been directed to remain alert during flood like situation and monitor flood level. He said there were 48 vulnerable points at different bunds on River Indus. Around 27 points are in catchment areas, six points in Gudu Barrage, seven points in SIDA catchment area and eight points in Kotri Barrage area. Chief Engineer Sukkur Barrage told measures have been on foot to face any flood emergency. Search lights, gunny bags, bamboos and other allied material have been in stock. Meanwhile, Commissioner Abbas Baloch has instructed irrigation department to remain watchful on sensitive parts besides Qadir Pur Loop Bund up to Baiji, Shank Bund, Fareedabad, Ulra Jagir, Sagyun and others on regular basis.
