ISLAMABAD: As part of colourful events planned in connection with the Independence Day, the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) organised fascinating fireworks at midnight on August 14 at the multipurpose Parade Ground, Shakarparian. Thousands of people from the twin cities and adjoining areas thronged to the area to be a part of the celebrations and witnessed the colourful attractions of the fireworks scattered in the sky. Islamabad Mayor Shaikh Anser Aziz was chief guest on the occasion. MCI Deputy Mayors Syed Zeshaan Naqvi, Azam Khan and Rifat Javed, local elected representatives from various union councils of Islamabad and senior officers of the MCI and CDA were also present. The fireworks continued for 30 minutes to amuse and entertain the people with the scattered colours in the sky. In addition to the people gathered on the venue, residents of the twin cities witnessed the fireworks from their rooftops and alongside roads. The venue was full of national flags and different national songs and the national anthem was being sung by the people. While addressing the ceremony, the mayor condemned the terrorist attack in Quetta. “The enemy is trying to discourage this nation, but they do not know that history and traditions of the Pakistani nation. Participation of general public in such a large number shows that they have the courage to make this country more prosperous and developed,” he said. He said that the MCI and CDA had also organised various events in connection with the Independence Day celebrations, which were held at various venues.
