The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced plan to automatically register shopkeepers through its own staff who remained evaded to participate in the Trader-Friendly Scheme. Media reports indicate that millions of traders across the country evade direct tax payments, prompting the FBR to initiate measures to address registration discrepancies. Surveys will be conducted nationwide to facilitate registration, with dedicated teams deployed for on-the-spot registration checks. Specialized teams will conduct field visits in respective cities to oversee the registration process. Traders were offered the opportunity to contribute to the country’s economy through minimal tax payments under the Trader-Friendly Scheme. However, apprehensions about being ensnared in the tax net led many traders to refrain from registration altogether. Despite the expiry of the registration deadline for the FBR’s Trader Dost Scheme, millions of traders remain outside the tax net.
