LAHORE: Several political leaders condoled the death of former Punjab chief minister Hanif Ramay, who passed away on Sunday. In his message, Pakistan Muslim League President Chaudhry Shujaat said that with Ramay’s death, the country had lost a brilliant and committed man who always practiced moderation in his political dealings. He said that Ramay never turned political differences into personal vendettas, which was why even his opponents respected him a lot. Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi expressed deep grief and sorrow over the former CM’s sad demise. In his message, Elahi said that Hanif Ramay was a unique man, creative, intellectual and honest. His writings and speeches, the CM said, had left a great mark on the lives of people from all walks of life. Punjab Governor Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool expressed his sorrow over the death of the renowned politician and artist, saying that the cultural circle had lost an invaluable asset. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad praised Ramay for his patriotism and his principled stance on all political issues. The services he rendered for the country, Qazi said, were invaluable and would always be remembered. Pakistan People’s Party leaders Qasim Zia, Rafique Ahmad Sheikh, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Naveed Chaudhry, Rana Aftab Khan and Iqbal Sialvi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary Information Umer Sarfaraz Cheema also expressed their sorrow over Ramay’s death.
