Sir: It is good that the Supreme Court took notice of what happened on Constitution Avenue in Islamabad on Saturday and has decided to summon all responsible officials for the brutality that unfolded. Television channels are showing the proceedings of this suo moto notice and the orders against the IG and DC of Islamabad. In the pictures published in newspapers however, we see that lawyers were also attacking police with batons. That shows that it was not just one-sided. The lawyers did after all threaten to tear into pieces the papers of Musharraf’s candidature for the presidential election. Were the lawyers beaten up in their offices homes or at the Supreme Court? No, they were marching towards the Election Commission office. Why? I urge the Supreme Court not to adopt a one-sided perspective; the lawyers should also be asked not to take the law in their hands. We have been seeing that nobody is bringing any honour to the country.MUJEEB REHMANVia email
