Sir: The absorbing tussle between transitionists and transformationists that has been witnessed in the columns of your newspapers in the past few months has not come to an end; in fact, it has reached its most crucial stage now. In a sense, the PPP and ANP represent the transitionists while the PMLN is in the transformationist camp. Their compelling personal reaons are very discernable. Their stands are not based on ideology. Whatever the reasons may be, if the unity unravels even before it is born and this fine opportunity is lost, the blame should lie with the politicians. The people voted decisively against the PMLQ and it would be a travesty to involve them in government again. Can the politicians raise themselves to the expectations and help improve the standard of democracy in Pakistan in the process? Time will tell. SUBRAMANYAM SRIDHARANIndia
