Sir: The consumer protection courts set up by the Punjab government have done some good work over the last couple of years. There is one issue, however, that the court must address: customers being ripped off close to Eid by greedy transporters. Authorities establish certain rates that are followed by transporters across the city of Lahore. However, they take matters into their own hands and end up charging people up to twice as much close to Eid. This is ridiculous, and highly exploitative, especially as most people who use public transport are from the lower middle and lower classes and cannot afford to satiate these transporters’ greed. The police, the transport department and other relevant authorities must act to nab these overcharging, exploitative transporters and make them pay for their greed. BABAR SHAHLahore
