Sir: Who would have thought six months ago that our team would make it to the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011? Pakistan was not allowed to host the World Cup, we had a controversial series in England, there was a lot of media pressure on our team and then the ICC banned three Pakistani players after they were proved guilty of spot-fixing. The circumstances were not exactly ideal. And then came Afridi and his team of 11, the non-favourites who fought, worked hard and played each game with determination and sheer courage. So what if our team did not win against India? Finishing top in their group, beating Sri Lanka in a close match, putting an end to Australia’s winning streak, blowing away the West Indies in the quarterfinals and most importantly, making it to the semi-finals are achievements to be proud of. After the Mumbai attacks, our players had to face a lot of discrimination from the other side. So honestly, is it not amazing that our team made it to India, with our flag and national anthem on the roll proudly? Skipper Afridi, you do not need to be sorry because we are proud of our green shirts! Thank you for rekindling our cricket fever once again and for uniting our nation! SABINA RIZWAN KHAN Karachi
