Sir: Hitting balls with a wooden bat can cause immediate injury and kicking balls with feet can cause immediate humiliation. The FIFA Football World Cup, 2010, and now UEFA Champions League, 2012, are about to end. Here is a list of my observations of typical Pakistani football fans: Category1: These ones claim to be regular followers of the sport. Asked when was the last time our football team played, they will be clueless; asked what the FIFA world ranking of our team is, they will be clueless. By the way, Pakistan is currently ranked 181. Category 2: This includes the ‘diehard’ fans — diehard fans of foreign club teams and other foreign national teams. Category 3: This category is full of certified losers. They claim to be football fans only because they think it makes them look cool, and will help impress girls. They support Manchester United and Chelsea (the only team names they know). These are originally cricket fans, following Wasim Akram on Twitter; they weep when Pakistan loses against India, but will always say cricket is oh so cheap. Category 4: These are football fans that I respect. Passionate about the game, they also follow our national and domestic teams. They respect and support the Pakistan cricket team. Those who ‘dislike’ cricket and watch football, please note: our team did not even qualify for the football world cup. WAQAR JAMAL Via e-mail
