Sir: It is a pity that in spite of having laws and rules governing child labour, Pakistan according to the ILO stands in the first row for violating rights of children by sending them to work. Pakistan is presently considered the worst country as far as child labour is concerned. Children are beaten and molested by their employees. The worst victims are girls since they become an object of sexual harassment as well. It is a pity that being an Islamic republic, the country is host to atrocities against children. Unless the government provides quality education, the menace of child labour would persist. SHAHID ANJUM Karachi
