Sir: Caritas Pakistan organised the Women Farmers’ Conference and an exhibition from October 22 to 24 at the Sargodha Institute of Technology under Caritas’ Agriculture Training Centre programme. More than 200 women from all over the country participated in the event, which was aimed at promoting equal rights for rural women labourers and sustainable and natural farming. The event aimed at providing a platform to women where they could share their experiences and to raise awareness about climate change and food security, according to one of the participants who was addressing the conference. The speakers highlighted the role of women in farming, their role in minimising threats of natural disaster, land rights for women and accessibility of agricultural markets to women. I urge other social and welfare organisations to arrange similar awareness conferences to improve the lot of women farmers. KAMRAN CHAUDHRY Lahore
