Sir: In more tragic news, four members of the same family have lost their lives in a gas blast in People’s Colony, Rawalpindi, a residential area. This happened because of gas load shedding. People are not usually careful when it comes to outages of gas because they forget to switch off gas stoves and heaters. When the gas supply is switched on, a single match being lit can cause havoc. These kinds of accidents are on the rise and there seems to be no one in the government willing to address this fatal issue. More public awareness campaigns need to be initiated to educate the masses about the dangers of leaving the gas supply on, especially when extreme outages occur. If the government cannot provide gas, it should at least facilitate the public by promoting safety measures and precautions. ALI JEHANGIR Karachi
