Sir: Ghulam Ahmed Bilour is well known for his notoriously unpredictable personality. Therefore, it came as no surprise when ‘Haji Sahib’ randomly reiterated his previous offer of paying the heirs of the Charlie Hebdo murderers, during a National Assembly session. Some information sources are terming this act as a form of advertisement strategy but the senior politician is unaware that he is openly soliciting and stirring racial hatred. Bilour is a wealthy Awami National Party leader, businessman and philanthropist with apparently very little to show in the official records. Exactly how will he pay the promised sum of $ 200,000? No one knows. It has to be understood that the veteran politician is himself no stranger to the damage inflicted by the extremist mindset when in 2012, his brother Bashir Bilour was assassinated by the fascist Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Instead of condemning radicalisation and all sorts of actions that support intolerance, the senior Bilour is doing quite the opposite. Pakistanis are still grieved over the incident of the Army Public School in Peshawar when they heard another news about the fatal blast in Shikarpur. In this difficult time, Pakistanis expect their leaders to be supportive and helpful in devising solutions to eliminate terrorism, not encourage already vulnerable people to take up arms and butcher others in the name of vengeance! Yet, what is even more disappointing is the fact that not even a single party member or even the Speaker criticised him, which shows the worrying levels of despair and helplessness in our society.
