Sir: Media is considered the fourth estate and enjoys great power and influence. In a democratic state of Pakistan, media has its freedom but it is not following a code of ethics while practicing this freedom. I believe it is really disturbing for the viewers to watch photos of dead bodies in the broadcast media while newscasters constantly repeat the announcement of deaths along with bloodshed on the screen. For ordinary citizens, exposing violent photos does not do any good but more harm than the news story itself. What adverse effect may such gory photos have on young minds? Do we plan to make our audience so desensitized that they no longer feel the pain of loved ones who go through family loss? In the rush to report it first and break the story, the media has forgotten all ethical values. MISHA RIZVI Karachi
