Sir: It is a time tested saying that a library is a hospital for the mind. Libraries are very important for the progress and development of a society. They help in personality development and are significant for a civil society. They ensure access to a vast ocean of knowledge to the common man. There are people in every society who have a craving for reading but have no money to satisfy their urge. Libraries are a blessing for such people. The concept of the emergence of free libraries goes back to the knowledge craving of such people. In the west such libraries are provided by philanthropists. We lack such philanthropists in our country. Ironically, there is a lack of public libraries in Hyderabad, which is the main city of Sindh. Many people from interior Sindh have migrated to this serene city. There are only two libraries including Maulana Hasrat Mohani Library near Pakka Qila and Allama Daudpota Library near Sindh Museum in Qasimabad. Hyderabad is home to cultural heritage, the land of religious and ethnic diversity. We need more public libraries so that students can have an easy access to a wide range of books. It is requested to the concerned authorities to build more libraries in Hyderabad. NASIR-UD-DIN SOOMRO Hyderabad
