Sir: As per media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is going to make another cardinal blunder by making Mr Haroon Rashid chief selector and Mr Azhar Ali captain of the One-Day International (ODI) team (he has never been known as an ODI player and precisely for this reason the entire top brass of PCB did not include him in the World Cup squad). Moreover, he is another replica of Misbahul Haq. So if at all Azhar is to be made the captain and Sarfraz Ahmad vice captain, why not keep Misbah as captain and Sarfraz as vice captain for future grooming? Sir, PCB is taking retrogressive steps (already the PCB old top brass is mentally living in the 20th century, whereas world cricket has moved to the 21st century, as was clearly visible in the World Cup performances, where we not only lost, but comprehensively lost many matches by a wide margin and many matches were surrendered in 32-34 overs). Actually, PCB is suffering from severe internal politics and bickering, which is rampant due to more than one power centre. As such, the competent authority is once again requested to personally look into the doomed PCB affairs, to uplift the totally collapsed cricketing structure from the abyss by imposing an ad hoc setup in the PCB, which should be headed by a hard taskmaster who should be a through professional with impeccable reputation of honesty. Moreover, in order to lead Pakistani cricket as per the modern day game’s requirements, the following appointments may be considered purely on merit (rather than likes or dislikes). Chief selector: this appointment may be made from the following cricketers who are world renowned and known for their impeccable honesty: Abdul Qadir, Mohsin Hasan Khan and Aamir Sohail. Captain of the ODI team: PCB is inclined to make Azhar Ali ODI captain, whose 2nd last ODI innings of just nine runs consumed 38 balls. His ODI career strike rate is 64.8. As such, one of the following dynamic players may be made ODI captain of our team: Sarfraz Ahmad, Wahab Riaz or Sohaib Maqsood. SYED NAYYAR UDDIN AHMADLahore
