Sir: The introduction of a pink rickshaw service after pink buses in Lahore is really commendable where it promises to empower women, enabling them to earn their bread in some respectable way. But such an action plan can badly backfire as these rickshaws with female drivers can become an easy target of unwanted chasers and mobile snatchers. Moreover, these female rickshaw drivers will be more vulnerable to harassment, abuse and violence as it will be inevitable for them not to have any sort of encounter with their male counterparts. In my opinion, further segregation will only enhance the eve-teasing and harassment problem. The only solution here seems to be inculcating respect for the fair gender in the minds of men for which each pillar of society needs to play its role effectively.DURDANA ADEELVia Email
