Sir: Pakistan has become the largest market of heroin consumption. It is also a chief exporter of heroin and approximately 50 tonnes of opium is illegally brought into Pakistan for producing heroin. It is the worst victim of the drug trade in South Asia. Mostly our young generation is becoming a victim of drug addiction. Drug peddlers sell drugs openly without any fear of the law and they have no regard for the consequences of their actions. The problem of drug addiction cannot be ignored. It is the government’s responsibility to net these drug peddlers. The government needs to involve communities and the media in highlighting the perils associated with drug addiction. There should be a community plan that should be implemented to stop drug addiction. Unless serious measures are taken, future generations would remain under the threat of this social evil.
