Curse of beggary

Sir: For the last many years, many countries, especially Pakistan and India, are becoming safe havens for baggers and deadbeats. Signals are packed with such moochers. They choose this profession because they earn more from it compared to the income from a normal job. Most of them have been in the business of begging for generations and it has become their tradition. These hobos are busy sucking citizens’ blood and money like leeches and parasites. They have become one of the biggest mafias in the subcontinent. Their tricks have become so excruciating, persuasive, and torturous that no one can easily escape them without giving charity. However, due to these parasites, charities, alms and donations could not reach the poor and deserving people. Above all, these beggars are found involved in many crimes like purse snatching, robberies, kidnappings and even sex trafficking.

Furthermore, being a student, I would like to highlight the area in front of the University of Karachi where there are many child beggars who remain busy in grabbing students’ hands and clothes and asking for charity despite the presence of tight security. This is true humiliation for students. The area opposite the Silver Jubilee Gate of the university presents a complete nomadic and gypsy style of life full of Jhuggies (informal settlements). It is the main area for these mendicants where they spend their days and nights. This area is most insecure for evening students and other inhabitants. I request the authorities concerned to look into this matter and take strict action against these professional beggars.
