Sir: It is medically proved that the measles is one of the deadly diseases, which can result in an increase in the mortality rate. According to a World Health Organisation (WHO) report, globally 139,300 deaths were caused due to measles and most of the victims were children under the age of five. In Pakistan, 21,000 children who suffer from measles meet their Maker annually. The leading symptoms of measles appear after 14 days. The government of Balochistan has taken an initiative to stop the outbreak of measles by running a 12-day anti-measles campaign to provide vaccines at the every nook and corner of the province. It is a matter of great concern that most of the measles cases are reported in remote areas of Balochistan such as Kolowa and district Awaran, where proper medication and vaccines are not available. Above all, the concerned authorities should focus on the provision of vaccines in remote areas and create awareness among the people about this deadly disease.WAHEED HAIDERKech
