In a pre-dawn attack on Monday, three civilians working for the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) were killed in Indian-held Kashmir. The GREF is a part of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) that constructs border roads in India. Media reports cited Indian defence sources as saying that two to three attackers launched an assault on the camp in Battal village around 1:00 AM, 55 kilometres from Jammu near the border with Pakistan. The militants first threw grenades into the camp and then opened fire. Indian troops cordoned off the site of attack and initiated an operation against the gunmen. Indian sources alleged that the militants infiltrated across the border to carry out the strike.
