LAHORE: The polling for by-elections for the constituencies of NA-63 Jhelum-II and PP-232 Vehari-I, will be held today (Wednesday), said Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). As many as 427,757 registered voters will cast their votes at 976 polling booths including 514 for males, and 462 for females out of of 314 polling stations of NA-63 Jhelum-II, the ECP Punjab office said. Four candidates including Raja Matloob Mehdi representing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jahangir Mahmood Mirza of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians, Chaudhary Fawad Hussain Pakistan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Dewan Hashmat Hayat of PML-Q will contest the by-elections. Earlier, five candidates withdrew their nomination papers. As many as 314 presiding officers, 976 assistant presiding officers and 976 polling officers would supervise the election process. It is worthwhile to mention here that the seat fell vacant after the death of PML-N leader Malik Iqbal Mehdi who secured NA-63 seat by getting 11,6013 votes in the general elections of 2013. Meanwhile, constituency of PP-232 Vehari-I has 11 candidates including Chaudhary Arsalan Shaukat Saselia, Chaudhary Tahir Naqqash Jutt, Chaudhry Abid Ali Kaselia, Advocate Chaudhary Abdul Saboor Arain, Chaudhary Ghulam Mustafa Jutt, Chaudhary Muhammad Yousaf Kaselia, Aysha Nazir Jutt, Advocate Muhammad Rafiq Nizami, Mirza Mehboob Rabani, Malik Rashid Faraaz Awan and Nazeer Ahmad Basit will contest the by-elections. Some 191,092 registered voters will cast their votes at 365 polling booths of 157 polling stations. As many as 157 presiding officers, 365 assistant presiding officers and 365 polling officers will supervise the electoral process.
