ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan informed the Senate on Thursday through a written reply that 205 cases had been detected of foreigners being issued Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) after June 30, 2014. In a written reply to another question, he said that 1,679 CNICs which were issued after June 30, 2014 had been blocked and cancelled due to suspicious or fake particulars, confirmed alien family and fake attestation. He said, “A total 205 CNICs have been blocked and their cancellation process was underway after fulfilling codal formalities.” He added that the intelligence agencies communicate and share the information with NADRA from time to time, for the blocking of CNICs issued to non-nationals. “Accordingly, NADRA blocks their CNICs and after fulfilling codal formalities cancels them.” He said that so far, 16 CNICs had been cancelled on their recommendations. He also informed that 11 car theft cases had been registered in Islamabad during the last two months, with no accused person being arrested. In a written reply to the senate, he said that the cases were under investigation and the police mobile was patrolling in the area during the occurrence of car theft, but could not ensure as the area of occurrence of crime is vast. He said, “On receiving information Naka Bandi (patrolling streets with checkpoints) is ordered to apprehend criminals.” Meanwhile, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab said that two foreign visits were made by the NADRA chairman in last three years, while other officers of the authority made 192 visists. He added that Rs 92.92 million were spent on these visits during the same period.
