ISLAMABAD: National Book Foundation (NBF) has introduced an e-Book scheme to promote book reading culture in society. As part of such efforts, the foundation has specially created an e-Book section on its website which is visited by lots of readers on daily basis. According to an NBF official, the initiative has been taken as per directions of Adviser on National History and Literary Heritage Division Irfan Siddiqui. NBF Managing Director Inamul Haq Javeid is also keen in promoting the book culture among readers as some schemes have been and were being introduced to promote book reading. The official said that NBF would also upload its fresh publication on its website and introduce new schemes to ensure availability of books. The official said that the e-book trend was gaining popularity among readers as advance technology ensures ease and comfort and that this new initiative would be fruitful as the readers would be able to have access to all important publications with one click on website. – ‘Shedding light on history of Punjabi plays’ – A book entitled ‘Drama Aur Punjabi Dramay ki Tareekh’ written by renowned scholar, researcher and author Professor Inamul Haq Javeid has been published. It consists of 206 pages, a price of Rs 450 and was published by ‘Alfaisal Nasharaan’ publishers. It consists of three parts in which the author has given details of when the drama was first started, the scripts writing, start of the Punjabi drama, radio drama, television drama and stage drama. He also added that the academic contents of Punjabi dramas have been collected at one place for researchers, teachers and students. The writer is a well reputed literary figure who holds an MA (Urdu) and (Punjabi) with distinction and later on obtained a degree of PhD from the Punjab University, Lahore. He has served in the Idara-e-Farogh-e-Qaumi Zubaan, Pakistan Academy of Letters, Allama Iqbal Open University and Al-Khair University on key posts. At present, he is working as managing director of the National Book Foundation (NBF). The author has more than 50 books (on different topics) to his credit. He has earned many national and international awards, including ‘Pride of Performance’ in recognition to his long services in the field of literature, research, education, translation and poetry. He has also vast experience in publishing and produced eight voluminous books related to 18 important languages being spoken in Pakistan. Attaul Haq Qasmi has mentioned that Inamul Haq Javeid has not only given a thorough detail of history of Punjabi drama, besides he has also given a critical view of Punjabi drama beautifully.
