KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the law enforcement agencies to provide proper security to the newly elected councillors so that they could participate in the local body elections. He said this while talking to media persons during his visit to different media houses on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his Information Advisor Mola Bux Chandio. He said that the election of mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen and vice chairmen would take place on Wednesday. “I have issued directives to the police and rangers for providing the necessary security to the councillors,” Murad said and added that he was quite optimistic that the election process would be completed amicably and peacefully. Murad said that nobody would be allowed to hijack the city’s peace and those daring to do so would be dealt with iron fists. “The chief minister, the police, the rangers and other law enforcement agencies personnel would stay awake throughout the night to secure the city,” he vowed. He said that he wanted to visit the media houses when they were attacked by some extremists but his security team suggested him not to do so – which infuriated him. “If the chief minister is not secure in the province’s capital then how would the citizens feel secure?” he asked his security head before leaving the CM House to visit the media houses. He said it was the police department’s responsibility to provide security to each and every citizen – which he vowed to ensure. “Now nobody would be allowed to torch any vehicle, take gun in his hand and start shuttering down in the markets,” he said. Regarding MQM’s new political developments, the chief minister said that it was their internal matter and that he respects the mandate of Karachi’s people.
