PESHAWAR: The City District Government on Wednesday inked an MoU with the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) and U-Elect to instal Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) tools at its offices to move smartly for local development and facilitation of masses. Both the organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding with the District Nazim to facilitate the district government in website development, online procurement process, recruitment process, citizens’ feedback mechanism, local government connect and sharing of day to day information with citizens’ through the website. Under the MoU, a two-day training of local government officials was already arranged at the Nazim’s office on August 30 and 31, while a focal person would facilitate the Nazim’s office for three months to update their day to day data on the website. The official website of Peshawar “<http://www.cdgpeshawar.gov.pk>www.cdgpeshawar.gov.pk” is under construction and will formally be launched in September. Syed Kausar Abbas, Executive Director of the SSDO and Shaan Muhammad Khan, Chairman of U-Elect, while conducting the training workshop of local government staff here at the Nazim’s office said the ICT tools were the best way to eliminate corruption and ensure transparency in public offices. He said Information technology would also facilitate common citizens’ to get day to day information and provide a feedback to the performance of local government department. He said all the public related data would be uploaded on the website and citizens’ would be able to get information on a single click. The information would be helpful to promote social accountability and transparency in the public offices of Peshawar. Asim Khan, the District Nazim of Peshawar, endorsed the idea and said he aimed to develop online tools to eliminate corruption from the public offices of the district government. He said all the public related data and procurement and tender process would be displayed on the website to ensure transparency and merit in the tendering process.
