ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has nominated Raja Farooq Haider as new prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is all set to form its government in AJK after last week’s landslide victory in the Kashmir general election. The party swept the general election for the 49-seat AJK Legislative Assembly. It bagged 31 seats. Haider was elected member of the Legislative Assembly of AJK in the July 21 general election. The decision to nominate him as AJK prime minister was taken at a parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Azad Jammu and Kashmir (PML-N AJK) with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair. All newly elected members of the AJK Legislative Assembly from the PML-N met Sharif at Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, leader of the house in the Senate, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Information Minister Pervez Rashid, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Chaudhry Barjees Tahir and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Affairs Dr Asif Kirmani were also present. Sharif congratulated all newly elected members of the AJK Legislative Assembly and said that corruption would not be tolerated in any case. Haider said that accountability process, not revenge, would be initiated in AJK. Those who sabotaged the system would have to face accountability, he said. “The day is not far when Indian-held Kashmir will be freed,” he said. He said that Azad Kashmir was a base for the Kashmir freedom movement.
