ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for the Aviation Division has strongly rebutted a news item appearing in a section of press that allegedly quoted the aviation secretary as saying – while briefing a Senate standing committee – that transcript analysis of the black box of PK-661 had failed to find the real cause of the crash. He clarified that in fact, the aviation secretary had informed the committee that the black box data had been securely retrieved and with its help the Safety Investigation Board (SIB) was investigating cause of the accident. “Actual cause of the crash can only be revealed once the investigators reach a definite conclusion,” he said. The spokesman added that the Senate committee was only apprised of the information that had been gathered through radio calls between the radar control and the pilots. He said there was no truth to the reports that one of the pilots was making a movie, as “it can never happen when an aircraft is in a state of emergency”. He also negated the “baseless” rumours regarding the presence of an airhostess in the cockpit.
