ISLAMABAD: A partial strike was observed against imposition of Withholding Tax on all banking transactions as most of hotels, bakeries, medical stores, chicken and vegetable shops remained open in the capital on Wednesday. Local traders and business community had called for a complete shutdown to protest the imposition of withholding tax, but most of general stores, food outlets, medical stores and chicken shops continued their business as usual in different markets of the city. According details, several shops were opened in Aabpara, G7, G9, I8, I10 and F10. Educational activities continued in the capital, as private schools also remained open, besides government institutions. As far as the public and private transport was concerned, it was available on all the roads. Anjuman Tajiran Islamabad President Chaudhry Kashif said the shutter-down strike was called to protest the imposition of withholding tax on bank transactions. When asked why do they not want to come under the tax net to exempt themselves from the withholding tax, he said due to some policies of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), they avoided to file their tax returns. He proposed the government to bring more reforms in the taxation system in a bid to bring maximum number of people into the tax net.
