RAWALPINDI: Rawal Road is a great blessing for the residents of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad but it is breaking up fast at various points. The commuters who regularly use it for traveling to various areas through the road have demanded immediate attention of the authorities concerned to save the main road from further breakup. Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) built the road in 2001 and its upkeep is still in their domain. A commuter Shafique Ahmad said that the chief minister has sanctioned a big amount for the construction of various roads in the city. He said that the importance of roads was witnessed on Wednesday when it was officially announced by the district administration that the commuters traveling to the federal capital should avoid traveling via Airport Road as carpeting is going on and the commuters had the option of taking a alternate route via Rawal Road. A commuter Taimur Ahsan said, “He took the alternate road but dismayed that the city’s main alternate road is breaking up due to apathy of the concerned authorities. An official of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) said that the authority had undertaken construction of the road years back and its repair is the responsibility of TMA. A resident Shumaila said, “One wonders why a viable road is going down the drain as millions were spent on its construction and thousands daily travel through this vital link. The commuters demanded of the commissioner to look into the issue for its early solution.
