Delay in BML installation causing huge dent to national sports

Published on: May 12, 2016 11:45 PM

ISLAMABAD: Non completion of Bio Mechanical Lab (BML) installation project since the last two years despite release of funds amounting to Rs 37.9 million to Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is causing colossal damage to national sports.

Sources told Daily Times, a sum of Rs 37 million were allocated in the budget for the financial year 2014-15 for installation of BML in Sports Complex Islamabad so that bio mechanical tests of the players are conducted in the country and reliance on other countries like India and Australia is reduced to zero level.

But this project was shelved since last two years because of malafide intent of high ups of PSB who are out to mint money out of the purchase deal while the rival group is bent upon foiling their every bid to pocket commission money.

Sources revealed that during the period spanning two years only building of the Lab has been constructed which also is incomplete. The PSB authorities have met sheer failure in installing infrastructure in this building and transforming the building into Lab.

Sources further disclosed that a cold war is continue between senior officials of PSB on the matter of purchase of bio mechanical infrastructure. One group of officials want that the infrastructure be purchased from some dealer in Pakistan while the second group wants infrastructure is imported from outside the country.

This vicious cycle of wavering between purchase or non purchase of the machine has led to deprive Pakistani players of facility of Lab. But national sports are in fact at receiving end and Pakistan is going to lag behind the other countries in sports and games.

Lack of BML has put the future of Pakistani players at stake because the action of the players is developed at local level and they have to face problems when they play at international level. Pakistan has to seek help from other countries in order to sort out these problems.

Director General Akhtar Nawaz Ganjaira had given wrong statement in the meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination that 90 percent work in respect of bio mechanical laboratory has been completed while the facts are otherwise. Only structure of the building has been completed.

When Daily Times tried to contact Akhtar Nawaz Ganjaira to seek his stance, his phone was found all time engaged.
