Sindh Assembly releases 3-year performance report

KARACHI: Sindh Assembly (SA) Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani presented a three years performance report of the provincial assembly in Assembly Hall on Monday.

SA Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani was accompanied by SA Deputy Speaker Syeda Shehla Raza and Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly, Khawaja Izharul Hassan.

Durrani said that aim of three-year performance report is to see work performance and learning from our mistakes. He highlighted some of the achievements of Sindh Assembly and said that it is the first assembly in the country, which has allowed live coverage of media. The assembly will be made bombproof from all sides due to security concerns,
he added.

According to report, during past three years, the assembly received 5,348 questions, 1,847 were allowed while 1,645 disallowed, 100 withdrawn, 877 are under process and 879 were laid on the floor of the house. Meanwhile, the assembly received 488 call attention notices, 334 tabled on the floor of the house and 154 lapsed.

The speaker said that about 130 Sindh government bills were received and 106 passed in three years, 37 bills in first year, 44 in second year and 25 in third parliamentary year respectively. Similarly, 44 private bills were received out of which 12 were passed whereas a total of 180 motions under rule 208/209 were received out of 169 lapsed and only 11 carried by the provincial assembly.

The speaker said that according to the data of three years performance, privilege motions were 49 and 223 adjournment motions were recorded. As many as 24 Sindh ordinances out of which 16 were laid in three years of parliamentary session and eight lapsed.

He informed that 57 resolutions under rules 123/124 were passed out of which 453 received and 394 lapsed, while 144 Out of Turn received and all were passed by the
Sindh Assembly.

He said, “Being speaker of the house he took all important issues and proper legislation to maintain balance between the government and opposition and both played a vital role.

The issues were debated and democratically resolved in three years in a democratic process.” He further said the opposition role was also a quite supportive to frame rules and legislations.

The Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly, Izharul Hassan, said that the opposition is truly satisfied with the performance of the speaker and deputy speaker of Sindh Assembly. This report covers the period from May 29th, 2013 to May 28th, 2016.
