ISLAMABAD: The largest hospital of federal capital Islamabad, PIMS, is facing severe scarcity of water due to which the patients’ problems have been doubled. The management throws the debris on CDA for worst ever water crises in hospital.
The water has become a rarity for the doctors, paramedical staff and patients in children section, emergency and other sections as they are landed in piles upon piles of woes and difficulties due to acute shortage of water.
When contacted a senior doctor of PIMS told Daily Times on the condition of anonymity that it has become difficult for doctors and paramedical staff to provide any treatment to 3,000 to 4,000 patients daily without water. No permanent solution has been found by CDA to the problem of water shortage in PIMS, the largest hospital of Islamabad, despite lodging of several complaints with this civic agency on this count.
He told that repeated calls have been made to CDA on helpline requesting the civic agency to provide water tanker but all in vain. This is peak of negligence that water is not being supplied during the holy month of Ramadan to citizens and patients, he added.
When contacted Vice Chancellor PIMS said told Daily Times entire Islamabad is landed in water crisis. “We have informed ministry repeatedly in this regard. However, no solution has been found to this vital issue due to lack of interest on the part of CDA”, he stated.
PTI central leader and MNA, Asad Umar said criminal negligence on the part of the government and CDA in ensuring water supply to citizens of federal capital is condemnable. “Islamabad is giving look of Karbala due to worst attitude of the government. Inhabitants of Islamabad are yearning for a drop of water in the holy month of Ramazan. How can a government be given the right to be called a government which can not provide basic facility of drinking water to its citizens, he added.
Why is he so fond of sticking to his chair when state minister for CADD can not provide drinking water to the citizens?, Umar asked, adding the minister made flash the news of taking notice of water shortage on TV and then slept composedly. Neither the funds have been released to supply water to citizens nor have the tube wells been made functional.
State minister for CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry told Daily Times he took notice of water paucity in different sectors and suspended DG CDA Water Management for showing persistent negligence and not redressing public grievances in terms of water supply. CDA has also been directed to keep open complaints centres round the clock in all sectors, he added.
All the tube-wells kept fully functional and water will be supplied to citizens in surplus quantity, the minister said, adding that directives have been issued to water management wing CDA to increase the number of tankers and water bowzers.
“We appeal to the citizens to avoid wasting water so that we all together could rid of water shortage”, the minister CADD said.
