PML-N and PPP strike deal in AJK to thwart PTI-MC alliance

Published on: July 29, 2016 9:14 PM

ISLAMABAD: PML-N and AJK PPP have struck a deal in post AJK polls scenario to prevent PTI-Muslim Conference alliance from clinching the seat of opposition leader in AJK legislative assembly. PML-N has decided to uphold the Charter of Democracy by supporting AJK PPP on reserved seat of woman in AJK legislative assembly. Sources told Daily Times that a senior bureaucrat of Azad Kashmir had helped broker this deal between AJK PML-N president Raja Farooq Haider and AJK PPP former president Chaudhry Abdul Majid.

According to this deal, PML-N was to cast vote in favour of PPP nominee on women reserved seats in AJK Legislative Assembly (LA) and PPP candidate for opposition leader slot. PML-N has upheld the deal by casting a vote in favour of Shazia Akbar, PPP nominee on reserved women seat in AJK LA polls. Sources said that deal is aimed at establishing friendly opposition in AJK LA and preventing PTI-Muslim Conference alliance from clinching the opposition leader slot.

Sources said that AJK PML-N has agreed on the name of Chaudhry Abdul Majid as opposition leader in AJK LA. Now PML-N and its allied parties will vote for the PPP nominee for opposition leader after the polls.

Sources said that AJK PML-N president Raja Farooq Haider, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, Chaudhry Muhammad Aziz and Dr Najeeb Naqi cast their votes last of all. The circles close to Chaudhry Abdul Majid and Farooq Haider said the deal had been struck with the permission of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari and AJK LA polls have revived the charter of democracy. It is pertinent to mention here that it would have been very difficult for AJK PPP to clinch the reserved seat of women in AJK LA without the support of PML-N because it held only 3 seats in AJK LA. PTI and Muslim Conference alliance have won 3 seats, PML-N 31 seats and Jammu and Kashmir PPP one seat.
