Zayna Rehman

Government’s efforts in safeguarding and protecting people from COVID must be lauded

Published on: June 23, 2020 12:49 AM

On June 16 2020, there were 148,921 confirmed cases of COVID-19. My name is Zayna Rehman from Grade 5 Lahore Grammar School Defence and I would like to thank our government for their efforts in supporting us during this pandemic. The task before you is a mammoth one. This virus is deadly and we know so little about it. Doctors, nurses and other frontline workers have lost their lives helping COVID patients. The public is scared and it seems easiest to blame those in charge. If you issue a lockdown, you risk the collapse of the economy and if you open everything then the virus spreads rampantly. It must be so confusing to make the decision to lockdown or not.

We all know that the coronavirus does not move itself, people move it. The government warned us that we must follow strict SOPs when we decide to leave our houses but the public failed. As a result, the cases of the corona virus have escalated putting pressure on our already compromised health system.

We, the people, need to join hands with our government in fighting this pandemic. Imran Khan’s COVID Relief Fund helps those people who have been made destitute by this pandemic. We can donate in this account 4162786786 at the National Bank of Pakistan, Main Branch, Karachi.

This is a great opportunity for the more fortunate to help the government in helping the 15 million less privileged citizens of our country.

The Tiger Relief Force is another initiative taken by the Pakistani government, encouraging the youth to enrol and aid the government in their efforts. Those interested can register through the Prime Minister’s Citizen Portal application.

The government has also made a number of isolation centres all over the country for COVID patients. Divided we fall, united we stand. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by – play your part.
